dutch startup brekr has unveiled its first electric scooter called the brekr model b. it features a lightweight aluminium frame and the capacity to fit two slimline batteries that promise up to 100 miles of range.

users can place two batteries in the brekr, each with a capacity of 1.9 kwh and a weight of approximately 10 kg. one battery promises between 50-80 km (approximately 30-50 miles) of range and twice as much if using dual batteries.
the brekr model b is available in two variants: with a maximum speed of 25 km per hour (15.5 mph), or a maximum speed of 45 km per hour (25 mph). the official designation under dutch law is ‘vehicle category l1e’ and a helmet is required for top-end speeds.
a front suspension fork and a unique rear suspension system absorb any shocks caused by uneven road surfaces, ensuring a smoother, more comfortable ride. a 2800 lumen halo-lamp as daytime running light ensures you are visible to other road users during the day.
the brekr is also fitted with a GPS-module, which keeps users connected 24/7 through the brekr app. it provides information about rides, battery capacity, the vehicle’s location and its condition (e.g. if locks have been tampered with).
the whole bike weighs only 62 kg (137 pounds) with a single battery, making it lighter that most electric mopeds. the brekr model b is designed and assembled in the netherlands, with some major parts like the battery built locally. other parts such as the frame are manufactured in taiwan.
customers can use the online configurator to customise a number of elements on their brekr such as the colours of certain parts and accessories. brekr plans to develop a program for customers who want additional customisations.
it costs only €9 (us $10) to pre-order the brekr model b, which gives customers a voucher to start configuring their brekr model b in december. the full price of the bike is €3,890 (approximately $4,290 USD) and deliveries on orders aren’t expected until sometime after spring 2020. the brekr model b will be limited to sales in the netherlands, belgium, and germany at first, but will expand to other countries, according to EMN.
